PSr1 2019 Design-Build Competition

Introduction

The local chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in Sonoma County is launching an Architecture Competition & Community Outreach Campaign; PSr1, Spring 2019.
Northern California is overcome with post-fire rebuild efforts and the prevailing housing crisis, retention and recruitment of young design talent has become a priority. The AIA has resources spanning the region and state that will promote this competition to students and emerging professionals in the Architecture community.

The Competition

PSr1 draws inspiration from the NY MoMA PS1 Young Architect’s Program, a competition offering emerging professionals the opportunity to design and build a temporary installation that engages and transforms the given outdoor space. PSr1 will emulate the relevant concepts of PS1.

Finalists will be chosen to install their “parklet” for display in the newly redone Santa Rosa Courthouse Square. Each winning installation offers emerging professionals exposure, portfolio work, and engagement with the community.

The Exhibition / Community Outreach

An exhibition of the design installations will provide emerging professionals exposure and a chance to engage with the community, as well as bring awareness to Santa Rosa and its downtown culture.
A promotion of this exhibit will be co-sponsored by the City and other community organizations.
