The AIARE COTE Committee presents a Lunch + Learn Course:
Lowering Concrete’s Carbon Footprint Through Design and Emerging Technologies
1 LU|HSW AIA CES Course Approved
Virtual – AIA, Assoc. AIA, Allied Member: Free
Description:
Concrete is the most widely used construction material in the world and is responsible for 6-10% of global anthropogenic carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions – primarily from its key binding agent cement. In this presentation and discussion we will explore available materials and design strategies that can be implemented to reduce concrete’s carbon footprint and learn about emerging technologies aimed at eliminating concrete’s carbon emissions altogether.
Presented by Jason Powers, PE, LEED AP, ZFA Structural Engineers
Learning Objectives:
- Attendees will learn about the basics of embodied carbon in concrete.
- Attendees will learn about available carbon-reducing concrete materials.
- Attendees will learn about and be able to discuss potential carbon-reducing concrete design strategies.
- Attendees will learn about emerging carbon-free and carbon capturing concrete technologies.
