Juan Gonzalez, Sustainability Manager, Vulcan Materials, Central Concrete
Juan Gonzalez is Manager of Strategic Development and Sustainability for Central Concrete Supply, Right Away Redy Mix, and Shamrock Materials, all subsidiaries of Vulcan Materials Company. Juan collaborates closely with Operations, Sales, Quality Assurance and VMC Research Lab to successfully implement internal sustainability initiatives such as Zero Waste for Concrete and special projects. He also collaborates with architects, engineers, contractors, and consultants to develop concrete specifications that are performance-based and incorporate embodied carbon goals.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand and explain how to achieve low carbon concrete through potential embodied carbon reductions (cement type, supplementary cementitious materials, aggregates, admixtures & additives, and implementation.
- Understand and explain how low-carbon concrete solutions can assist with optimized concrete performance for high strength, low permeability, and high modulus of elasticity.
- Learn how to remove barriers for achieving low carbon footprint concrete while maintaining intended structural and placement performance criteria, and maximizing footprint reduction.
- Learn about life cycle of concrete products from extraction and origination to transport and manufacturing and why the Environmental Product Declaration which uses 3rd party verified & registered documents is required for transparency (EPDs contribute to LEED credits).
