AIA Redwood Empire COTE (Committee on The Environment) presents a tour at Passivhaus in Napa with Jarrod Denton, AIA of Signum Architecture.
We will explore site specific design using weather data, solar shading and PHPP & WUFI modeling; look at heating and cooling energy efficiency using annual and peak demand; airtightness requirements (sealing, insulation quality, fenestration); Thermo Bridge Free Design and air barriers; balanced ventilation using the principles of whole house ERV/HRV and closed loop systems; physical testing (blower door testing, CHP Rater roll/milestones), as well as energy reducing renewables.
The Passive House Institute (PHI) is an independent research institute that has played an especially crucial role in the development of the Passive House concept – the only internationally recognised, performance-based energy standard in construction.
