Join your local chapter, the American Institute of Architects, Redwood Empire Chapter for an all ages, informative cruise, presented by the AIARE Committee on the Environment (COTE) in and around Old Town Eureka and the Bay Trail.
- This Bike Tour is centralized around downtown Old Town Eureka with four areas of historical and architectural interest/foci. 1. Historical Architecture / Restoration 2. New Development 3. Bay Trail / Bike Infrastructure 4. Public Art
- The goals of this tour are to increase awareness of Humboldt’s bikeability and demonstrate how to safely navigate city streets, neighborhoods, and connectivity – Bay Trail!; to highlight unique historical and contemporary architecture and how they each interact in and with the community as well as some fascinating history of the area in general; and to showcase the amazing public art that’s available to everyone!
- This event is a six+ mile, family-friendly, slow cruise with safety at the forefront. We have created a map with route markers/stops and will have this available in print for riders. Tour participants will hear brief talks at each stop throughout the route from architects, historians, infrastructure experts, and a public art expert highlighting the importance and relevance of each structure and location. In addition, a transportation expert from City of Eureka will be present to speak about the bay trail and bicycle infrastructure.
Please plan to bring your own water. Restrooms are limited along the route, so please plan accordingly.
