COVID-19 Re-entry: Designing for the Workplace and Educational Environments

The course will offer insight and strategies for re-entry and re-occupancy specifically related to COVID-19, the health, safety and welfare of those re-entering the built environment; discussion on designing, researching and implementing new standards and requirements.

This panel will share their expertise in the following areas:

  1. What are the non-negotiables that must be considered?
  2. How will this experience change the work force or student environment? What will likely be a long-term effect?
  3. Examples of design solutions and the conversation about short term verses long term solutions.
  4. A discussion on how to support clients with longer strategic goals.

Melissa Hanley, Principal and Co-founder of Blitz

Melissa has authored Blitz’s ‘Hacker’s Guide to the Post-Covid Workplace’ and has spoken on the subject of re-entry strategy on panels for IIDA National, San Francisco Business Time Leadership Trust, Steelcase, and several real estate brokerage and venture capital firms.

Randy Howder, Managing Director of Gensler’s San Francisco office

Randy has been actively writing about the future of the post-pandemic workplace and advising numerous clients on return-to-the-office strategies. He has been a featured speaker at several international design conferences his work has been published in the San Francisco Chronicle, HuffPo, Interior Design Magazine, Metropolis, Fast Company, Forbes, and the Economist.

Aaron Jobson, Principal at QKA, Board of Directors of Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS)

In response to COVID-19, Aaron has been working with colleagues from QKA and CHPS to help schools plan for healthier buildings both in the immediate response and as they develop new facility projects.  He is the primary author of a whitepaper that CHPS is publishing on Ventilation and COVID-19 in schools.

Yana Ronin, Founder and Chief Strategist at FORTYSEVEN

Yana is the founder of FORTYSEVEN, a consultancy focused on built-environment experience and real estate optimization rooted in a research-driven, data-based strategic approach. Yana is also an educator, teaching Operations & Systems in CCA’s Design MBA program in San Francisco.

She has been re-imagining the post-COVID passenger experience for the San Francisco Airport, as well as developing re-entry workplace strategies with clients in the Bay Area.
