AIA Advocacy in Congress

AIA and its elected leaders don’t usually send this many emails in a week—but knowledge is power.

As we all grapple with the new reality presented to us as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, AIA believes it is important for members to stay informed. AIA is committed to sharing information you can use, and to keeping you in the loop about legislative and regulatory activity that may directly impact you and your firm.

At this moment, Congress is debating another legislative package—this time a stimulus measure—that could have a direct impact on architects and our businesses. Although confusing, it is important to know that Congress has passed two of three relief packages, is scheduled to consider a stimulus package, and will likely consider other measures to get funding to the states as soon as possible.

Yesterday, AIA CEO/Executive Vice President Robert Ivy, FAIA, and AIA President Jane Frederick, FAIA, sent a letter to Congress imploring its members to provide relief to business owners and employees, and advocating for investment in infrastructure to stimulate economic recovery. It is our hope that through continued advocacy on your behalf, we will successfully ensure that architects are heard on critical policy issues.

Here are links to the letter and the media statement  AIA released today. We expect that the stimulus bill will pass in a few days. When that happens, we will provide you with an analysis of the legislation and what it means for the profession.
